Stories in Music™Ventures under the Sea!
JUANITA THE SPANISH LOBSTER
Latest Release from Magic Maestro Music/Kids™Features the London Philharmonic Orchestra Performing David Haslam’s Humorous Musical Tale
Washington, DC (Winter 2005-06) -- Magic Maestro Music/Kids™ announces the release of Juanita the Spanish Lobster, the latest work in the nationally acclaimed and top award winning
Stories in Music™series.
Symphonic storytelling has never been as fun as with this delightfully entertaining tale about a rude and overbearing lady lobster who wants to go to the land. The London Philharmonic Orchestra, with conductor Stephen Simon and narrator Yadu, blend perfectly to bring out the story's themes of hubris, dreams and determination. British composer David Haslam's passionate flamenco and bel canto opera music makes Juanita pure entertainment for the entire family.
As with the other new classics for narrator and symphony orchestra in the Stories in Music™ series, Juanita the Spanish Lobster includes an audio CD with additional (including information about the composition, musical styles and instruments and an Elvis-style arrangement of the “Oh, Juanita” theme song) and a Program Book designed to develop and expand listening skills. The release is perfect for children ages six and up.
Juanita is an imposing Spanish lady lobster. Not content to knit seaweed with the other lobsters in the grotto, Juanita prefers to dance a fierce flamenco and sing about her troubles. She loathes her boring underwater life and longs for more excitement. Thinking she can find more fun on the land, she leaps into a fisherman’s lobster trap one day. Her admirer, a lovesick little lobster named Caradoc (as in the Arthurian knight) saves her from certain doom. In the end, a newly contented Juanita learns to love the grotto, and she sings about her marvelous life with all of the other sea creatures.
Johnny Morris, a popular British television personality who wanted to try something new after repeated performances of Peter and the Wolf, collaborated with conductor David Haslam to create Juanita the Spanish Lobster. The work combines Spanish flamenco music with bel canto opera, along with a jocular narration.
Stephen and Bonnie Ward Simon are excited to present this new release. “Juanita is brilliant! The music is both beautiful and humorous; the story is outrageous. No one who has ever heard it even once ever forgets it. How could it not be part of our Stories in Music™ series?,” noted the Simons.
In the tradition of Peter and the Wolf, Magic Maestro Music creates new works for narrator and orchestra, based on classic stories. The two previous Stories in Music™ classics,
Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel and Casey at the Bat, have won numerous awards and acclaim from Parents’ Choice, Dr. Toy, the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, the American Library Association, Booklist, Creative Child magazine and the National Parenting Center. Reviewers rave about how these new classics excite young listeners’ interest in orchestral music.
Magic Maestro Music will release a new Stories in Music™ work, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, in 2006.
